Parent Concept provides information to parents considering home education / homeschooling in France and about conscious parenting generally. It includes tips on teaching a range of subjects - such as maths, reading and writing and science and contains useful links to a range of English and French home schooling organisations. The website focusses on France, as we're in Montpellier in Languedoc Roussillon and includes a kids section with educational games.
Home education is a real alternative to school and nurtures children's sense of wellbeing, allows them to develop naturally and autonomously and to pursue areas of learning that they are most interested in. We've had a great time home educating our two boys and I feel it's given them the opportunity to spend time pursuing the subjects that they're most passionate about and that as their interests change and evolve, to continue to seek out new learning experiences that they find exciting.
Areas of the site that are particularly relevant to homeschoolers include:
- FAQ - Answers to the most common questions we're asked about homeschooling.
- The Law - A translation of relevant sections of the law in relation to homeschooling.
- Annual Control - Information on the annual exams / controls for children.
One of the most common requests we receive is whether we know any other homeschooling families in a specific area, whether it's Paris, Montpellier, Nantes, or a small town in the middle of nowhere. We've therefore recently added a map of families in France where you can register to introduce yourselves and talk about your educational style. If you'd like to meet other families then we highly recommend adding your details to the map.
We are a home-educating family of four, Allison Carmichael and Martin Woods, with our teenage sons, Tormey and Saskian. As well as home schooling, we design websites and Allison is an artist and graphic designer.
